Every time I have to do one of these, I get absolutely furious.
Uniquely heinous in the “shit churches do to fuck people up” category, is the Catholic Church’s ever-widening, ongoing, never-ending child abuse scandal.
This one had to be added to our list, so I borrowed a friend’s netbook briefly.
A California couple beat their child to death in the name of God.
Kalebu told the courtroom on Wednesday: “I was there and I was told by my God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to attack my enemies, and I did so.”
This is some fucked up shit. Two women living their lives, trying to be happy, somehow makes them his enemies?!
Insurgents tricked an 8-year-old girl in a remote area of central Afghanistan into carrying a bomb wrapped in a cloth and then detonated the bomb remotely when she was close to a police vehicle, the Afghan authorities said Sunday. Only the girl was killed in the blast.

I’m still sorting through the google cache of the old blog, most of it is just news tidbits, some of which I added to Religion Harms, most of it is random nonsense (which isn’t particularly surprising), but there are some personal reflections that I wanted to hold on to.

Finals all done, and I’m done with school til September. Should have grades within the week, I’ll let you know.
I changed some structural things, added a Book List (copying off Daz), added a Flickr photostream (copying off Amy), put in a little blurb that says what book I’m reading now, and added some links to the Religion Harms page that I didn’t have time to blog about, and messed with the header image a bit (though I’m still not pleased with it).

The ones where children die, or end up in the hospital, are the ones that both make me the maddest, and break my heart at the same time.

Ayat gave herself up to police after they threatened to kill her brothers. She was taken away in a car with two security officials – a man and a woman – both of whom were masked and dressed in civilian clothes. They immediately started to beat her and threaten her, saying she would be raped and sexually assaulted with degrading photographs of her put on the internet.
